It is amazing how the Bundesliga clubs continue to produce amazing keepers every season. It is equally extraordinary for Sepp Maier to herald the arrival of a keeper with super talents. Micheal Rensing was all of the above as number two keeper at FC Bayern. He was the designated keeper to replace legendary Oliver Kahn.
Sadly, he could not pass the litmus test after Kahn hung his gloves at Bayern Munich. A much older Jörg Butt took his place as number one keeper in goal.
He left Bayern disappointed and moved to lesser clubs to acquire the badly needed experience.
Rensing, just signed for a lower division team, Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Unfortunately, he was told some days ago that he is not the first choice keeper. Fortuna Düsseldorf coach,Micheal Büskens, decided to choose Fabian Giefer, instead.
Rensing reacted in anger and left the training grounds of Fortuna Düsseldorf. He could not stand the truth that he is not good enough as first choice.
Due to his negative reaction to the news, a much younger keeper who is actually 18 years old,Robin Heller, was named the second choice keeper in the match against Cottbus yesterday.
Giefer performed well in Düsseldorf’s defeat of Energie Cottbus in their opening match of the second division Bundesliga match.
It is highly speculated that Rensing will seek a new club before the transfer window close.
Rensing is good but his days as the stark and extra talented keeper is gone with the wind. There are other keepers in the Bundesliga who are hungry and eager to take his place.
