FC Bayern lose Badman and Robben copyright dispute in court

Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben brought joy to Bayern fans in all their years in Munich. However, their nicknames were at the center of a copyright dispute between the plaintiff, Sikander Goldau against FC Bayern. Sikander Goldau, a filmmaker and artist, painted the Bayern legends as “Badman and Robben” in the costume of super heroes “Batman and Robin”.

The plaintiff had the original idea to paint the Bayern stars in 2010. He went with the idea to FC Bayern in 2015 for talks on how to use the heroes for merchandising. Bayern were not interested.

Years later, “Badman and Robben” became merchandising articles in FC Bayern shop. This time, another artist painted it, and Goldau sought redress in court for unlawful copying. In the judgement this week, the court granted Goldau rights of copyright and FC Bayern has to pay damages, if they do not appeal the judgement.

Ralf Fährmann is number one goalkeeper in Schalke

David Wagner has used experience and quality in training to name Ralf Fährmann as goalkeeper number one for the coming season ahead of Markus Schubert and Michael Langer.

“The training sessions and the test games in the preparation have shown that Ralle has regained his old strength. Since his return to Gelsenkirchen five months ago, he has improved continuously after a personally tough year with little playing time for him,” Wagner said.

Fährmann was loaned to Norwich city in EPL and later Brann Bergen in Norway but came earlier than expected to Schalke because of the pandemic.

Rafal Gikiewicz is first choice goalkeeper for Augsburg and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw made captain

Coach Heiko Herrlich has named the new arrival, Rafal Gikiewicz as number one goalkeeper instead of Tomas Koubek. Herrlich explained that Koubek will serve as the other alternative in goal, “he has developed very well and improved in many things. The important thing is that, if anything were to happen – we would have an alternative immediately.”

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is the new captain after the exit of former captain Daniel Baier, who has ended his career.
