During the derby between Schalke and Dortmund, Aubameyang scored a goal for Dortmund. He celebrated the goal in style by wearing a mask. The mask celebration was an advertisement for Nike, despite the fact Dortmund is sponsored by Puma.
It is debatable if it was a faux pas or a marketing strategy from Aubameyang. According to a Kicker report, Sport director, Michael Zorc, confirmed that Aubameyang has been fined for his misconduct. Zorc said, ” he was not aware about the consequences of his actions.” He added that the situation was serious and it will not be tolerated by the club. It is reported by BILD that the fine is around €100,000.
There was another photo with the mask circulating in Social media again with Aubameyang, this time, the mask was worn by his brother. Dortmund quickly dispelled rumors that it was a new provocation from Aubameyang.
